Meet the Neighbours: SEM
The working group ‘structure research and electron microscopy’ (SEM) of the department of physics and the CSMB and its close collaborators from HZB will introduce themselves on Tuesday, Nov 5, starting at 15:00. The format will be 1 h of poster teasers and a short overview presentation, followed by another hour of poster session with snacks and drinks.
The SEM group focuses on the development and application of state-of the art methods in the field of imaging, diffraction and spectroscopy with fast electrons to relevant problems in the science of materials. Together with their collaborators and embedded in the BUA Alliance Center for Electron Microscopy (ACEM) as well as the Berlin-Adlershof Center for Advanced Microscopy (BeAM) they push resolution limits in space, energy transfer and time, when exploring properties of nanomaterials such as, for example, their (3D) atomic structure, electronic excitations, phonons, or the dynamics of electric and magnetic fields. In order to sustain the experimental and methodical developments they are accompanied by investments in long-term strategies of research data management and various ways of utilizing/developing artificial intelligence tools.
