A significant breakthrough in solar cell research: Scientists from the CSMB at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) have collaboratively developed a CIGS-perovskite tandem solar cell that sets a new world record with a certified efficiency of 24.6%. This record value was confirmed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE. By combining a CIGS thin-film bottom cell with a perovskite top cell, the teams managed to achieve high efficiency with a minimal ecological footprint.

We are particularly proud of this success, as it demonstrates the extraordinary results that can be achieved through close collaboration between university and non-university research at the Adlershof science hub,” emphasizes Prof. Emil List-Kratochvil, head of the joint laboratory of HU and HZB.

The research teams are now working on further optimization to actively help shape the future of sustainable energy supply.
